To date, this has been Lucina's (Motcy) most challenging and time-consuming collection. The preparation of each model took the artist days to achieve the desired result. With these pieces, Lucina always set to rescue some ancestral technique with a contemporary touch. Of note, this collection was produced during a difficult stage for the artist as she navigated some personal challenges and life's unexpected blows. For her, these pieces reflect her journey through these struggles and are the result of love and light and what happens when you calm your heart and mind.
These designs were made in collaboration with artist Maricela Tapia, a Mexican Laca Perfilada artist from Michoacan. These pieces were designed by Motcy and especially made with her designs in mind. The artisans worked meticulously to bring these designs to life, and Motcy, using wire wrapping techniques, completed the designs in Dallas, TX. Laca Perfilada is an artisanal art form native to Michoacan; the gold shellac paint is used to create designs by hand on various mediums. Traditionally, the laca perfilada paintings are colorful and designed with local fauna and flora in mind. Lucina of Motcy Designs, adds her own touch to the laca art by hand beading the various stones and charms to compliment and bring to life her designs.
