This capsule collection, first introduced in 2019, returns with a limited selection available for order through our collaboration with Nayibi. Inspired by amate, derived from the Nahuatl word ámatl, meaning "paper," this collection honors an ancient art form deeply rooted in Mesoamerican culture. Known as amate bark painting, this tradition involves creating and painting on bark paper, typically crafted from fig and mulberry trees. Indigenous communities used amate to record history, convey spiritual beliefs, and depict scenes of everyday life. This medium served as a canvas for symbols, deities, and narratives, weaving a rich tapestry of cultural identity and preserving stories across generations.
Through this collection, Nayibi captures the essence of amate—its role as a storytelling medium, its deep connection to the earth, and its testament to cultural resilience. Each piece is a contemporary homage, blending tradition with modernity to celebrate Mexico’s artistic heritage in a wearable form.
